Our team

Louis Belleau, Ad. E.

Louis Belleau practices law in the fields of criminal, penal and disciplinary law.
Having served as Crown counsel from 1981 to 1983, Mr. Belleau then practiced at the firms of Silver Braun, Filteau Belleau, Shadley Battista and, since 2012, Louis Belleau Avocat.
Mr. Belleau has appeared before all courts of criminal jurisdiction in the Province of Quebec and, on occasion, outside Quebec. He appeared many times before the Supreme Court of Canada notably as counsel for the Quebec Bar in the landmark case of Maranda v. Richer, and was designated on three occasions by the Court to appear as amicus curiae in the cases of R. v. Bellusci, R. v. Burke and R. v. Thanabalasingham.
Mr. Belleau has published several articles on various subjects related to criminal law and has taught criminal law at the School of the Quebec Bar. He served as counsellor and then Vice-President of the Montreal Association of Criminal Lawyers and was President of the Quebec Bar’s Committee on Criminal Legislation.
In 2004, Mr. Belleau was the recipient the Merit of the Quebec Interprofessional Council and the Prix Reconnaissance of the Montreal Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers. He was awarded the Merit of the Quebec Bar and was designated Advocatus Emeritus in 2005. In 2014, the Quebec Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers awarded him the Antonio Lamer Career Achievement Award.
He became a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2012 and is also a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.
He has been listed in Best Lawyers in Canada® since 2006 and was designated by Best Lawyers® as Lawyer of the year for 2019 and 2021 in the field of criminal law in Montreal.

Antoine Grondin-Couture, B.C.L./LL.B.

Mr. Antoine Grondin-Couture is not afraid of complex legal problems and spares no effort in the defence of the rights of his clients.


He studied law at McGill University where his keen interest for criminal law began early. After obtaining his double bachelor of laws (LL.B.) and civil law (B.C.L.), he completed his Québec bar articles at the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in Geneva, as a legal intern in international humanitarian law. He was called to Bar in 2016.


Upon his return to Montreal, he joined Mr. Louis Belleau, in February 2017, in order to devote himself exclusively to the practice of criminal and penal law. He works with Mr. Belleau in several major cases before all levels of courts of criminal jurisdiction in Québec, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Grondin-Couture’s areas of practice include corporate and financial offences (fraud, corruption, etc.), competition law, drugs and arms offences, crimes against the person, as well as impaired driving infractions.
As an advisor to the Board of the Montreal-Laval-Longueuil Criminal Lawyers Association (AADM) from 2019 to 2021, Me Grondin-Couture has also been involved in the continuing legal education of criminal lawyers and the AADM’s intervention files.
